I don't particularly like Nine Inch Nails, but the Q&A Sasha Frere-Jones did on the group is an illuminating conversation about rock performance and image creation. Plus, there's this:

GRACE: If you look at the slash fiction on NIN, for instance, it’s mostly homoerotic…and pretty hot.

SASHA FRERE-JONES: Homoerotic fan fiction is always a good sign.

I do find it extremely entertaining that fan fiction has entered the mainstream critical lexicon. Just to be a nerd, though, I'd correct Grace, and note that describing slash fiction as homoerotic is redundant.
