Going to the Chapel

I'm not shocked, but I am hugely relieved that Archie's marriage to Veronica is only speculative fiction, and he's not guaranteed to tie the knot with either her or Betty.  I wrote at this at greater length earlier in the summer, but Veronica is the wrong choice for Archie, no question.  Even though I'm slightly annoyed at the marketing campaign, I am totally thrilled that the marketing device has worked, and is sparking sales of Archie comics dramatically.  I realize I'm hardly the only person to feel this way, but Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends were fairly important in my early conceptions of dating, self-confidence, the value of smartness in girls, and a whole host of other critically important topics.  I want them to survive so my theoretical children will have the chance to feel the same way, even if that means Archie doesn't actually get to grow up.
