The Oscars Have Found a Way to Convince Me to Watch

Namely, by tapping Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin to host.  This is totally brilliant.  Both men love acting.  Their humor plays in opposite directions, both emotionally and physically.  Martin is warm and loose, often goofy, while Baldwin is cool, and controlled, often almost withdrawn.  They've worked together in the upcoming It's Complicated, so they'll have some reasonable sense of each others' comedic timing.  Martin brings the Oscar pedigree, while Baldwin's hot right now because of 30 Rock.  Plus, they're both supremely weird.  It's true that they're both white, older men, so that's a little disappointing.  But I think it's an innovative and charming choice, and a real testament to how far back Baldwin has come from his low point (which, to be fair, wasn't that low, but didn't involve Hollywood's easily forgivable sins, like drugs, or debauchery).  I'm very happy for him.
