I may be the only person around immune to the charms of Mickey Rourke, but I still think Iron Man 2 looks like it's going to be a lot of fun.
I've got a couple of concerns. I thought Scarlett Johansson was good at playing sexy and devious in Match Point, but I don't know if she's good at playing secretly smart, which I think this role requires. In Match Point, she was devious but ultimately kind of dumb, which worked for the blank slate nature of the part. Black Widow's gotta have some depth. I also hope the movie stays solidly funny, even as it moves into darker territory. I thought one of the strengths of the first movie was the way Tony Stark deployed humor as a mechanism both of disguising vulnerability and attempting to project closeness. I think there are some indications that there will be a fair bit of that between Pepper and Tony, which would make me quite happy. I like Gwyneth Paltrow quite a bit, and have been dismayed by the humorless turn in her real life turn to clueless wannabe gurudom. I'd like to see her redeem herself a bit here.
