I tend to think that Lavigne's problem has been that her lyrics have a consistently sour tone, even from the beginning. "You look like a fool to me." "I don't like your girlfriend." "We are in love, haven't you heard / how we rock each other's worlds?" It's all just unpleasant. And while it might have been kind of reassuring and bratty and rebellious when she was young, it's an old shtick, and negativity I don't have time for anymore.
